Joyful Adventure in Khangai Region Tour

Discover Khangai (mountainous and fertile pastures) region, which displays one of six natural zones of Mongolia which differs by its mountainous grassland with numbers of lakes and rivers dotted with colorful wildflowers, in other words - “PARADISE” for nature lovers. Its nature and weather conditions are appreciable for having a comfortable touring with the whole family.
We will start from the legendary Kharkhorin and Erdene zuu area after which will traverse to the north-west towards the Khangai mountain range. The region displays several freshwater lakes and there are wonderful opportunities to walk & hike, ride horses and camels, visit natural caves and slide at the sand dunes. Meeting with nomad families will be a unique experience for the entire group.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1.
Welcome to Ulaanbaatar! Meet your guide and driver at the airport and go to your hotel. After unpacking and a short rest, enjoy a city tour. Visit the Dinosaur Museum to see amazing fossils, and explore the Chinggis Khan Museum to learn about Mongolia’s history. Later, visit Gandan Monastery, where kids can see monks chanting and spinning prayer wheels. (L/D)

Day 2.
Travel to Elsen Tasarkhai, also called the "mini-Gobi," a beautiful place with small golden dunes, small wetlands, and peaceful nature. Kids will love meeting camel herders, learning about their nomadic life, and riding camels across the small dunes. The wetlands around the dunes are home to many birds, so it’s a great chance to see some of Mongolia’s wildlife. You can also hike up Batkhan Mountain to explore the ruins of a small ancient temple, an important historical site with amazing views. Stay overnight in a comfortable tourist camp near Batkhan Mountain and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

Day 3.
Drive to the Orkhon Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, located near the Orkhon River. This area is rich in history and was once the heart of the Mongol Empire. Visit the local museum to learn about Mongolia’s ancient past and why this valley is so important. Explore the site of the ancient capital city, Kharkhorin, and visit Erdene Zuu Monastery, Mongolia’s oldest monastery. Surrounded by 108 white stupas, the monastery is home to beautiful Buddhist art, statues, and religious treasures. Stay overnight in a cozy tourist ger camp near the Orkhon River. (B/L/D)

Days 3-4.
Travel to the stunning Khorgo-Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake National Park, a perfect spot for family adventures. The park is home to a crystal-clear lake surrounded by volcanic landscapes, making it an exciting place to explore. Hike to the top of an ancient volcano crater for breathtaking views and discover fascinating caves nearby.
Kids will love the variety of activities here! They can ride horses through the wide, open fields, try fishing by the peaceful lake, and spot different bird species in their natural habitat. There are also plenty of trails for hiking and enjoying the fresh air. With so much to do, it’s an unforgettable experience surrounded by nature’s beauty. Stay in a tourist ger camp. (B/L/D)

Day 5.
Continue our journey to Ider River, a serene and beautiful location surrounded by lush meadows and rolling hills. Along the way, pass through the scenic Khangai Nuruu mountain range and cross the Solongot Pass, offering stunning countryside views. Once at the river, enjoy the peaceful atmosphere and participate in fun activities like fishing, birdwatching, or hiking along the riverbanks.
Visit a nomadic family at their summer campsite near the river. Kids will love meeting the family, learning about their way of life, and discovering how they care for their animals. This is a wonderful opportunity to experience traditional Mongolian culture up close. Relax by the river in the evening and enjoy a cozy night in a tent camp under the stars. (B/L/D)

Day 7-8.
Arrive at the picturesque Ullagchiin Khar Lake, where the sparkling water and nearby Sand Dunes set the stage for an unforgettable family adventure. After checking in a ger camp, start with a refreshing swim in the shallow lake, perfect for kids, followed by a thrilling dune sliding with sleds or boards. Enjoy a campfire evening filled with stories and toasted marshmallows under a starlit sky.
The next day, embark on a gentle horseback ride led by experienced guides, exploring the lake’s edge and the surrounding steppe while learning about Mongolia’s nomadic traditions. Take a guided nature walk to discover local plants, birdlife, and animal tracks, with a fun scavenger hunt for kids. Wrap up the trip with creative activities like drawing or sand art, and end with a magical stargazing session, spotting constellations and hearing tales of the stars before saying farewell with a group picnic and cherished memories. Day 9.
Drive to Uliastai, the central town of Zavkhan province. Visit a local museum to learn the history and culture of the people. Rest in local hotel. (B/L/D)

Day 10.
Take a flight back to Ulaanbaatar. Depending on the flight time, short city tour, or cultural performance of traditional arts in the evening. Farewell dinner together. (B/L/D)

Day 11.
Transfer to Chinggis Khaan International Airport or Train station and depart Mongolia. (B)
