From incredible mountain views to breathtaking shots of lakes captured by Mongolia’s most beautiful sights from the air. The stunning images are taken by Batzaya Choijiljav, who has been traveling and photographing all over Mongolia for more than 10 years. In this article, we want to show you some of the most scenic photos taken from the airplane window.
River Khovd: Over Bayan Ulgii province, western Mongolia. The length of the river is 516 kilometers and it flows from Khoton and Khurgan Lake into Khar-Us Lake, through three provinces of Western Mongolia, Bayan-Ulgii, Uvs and Khovd,

Canal of Lake Khyargas and Lake Airag: Uvs Province of western Mongolia. Lake Airag flows into Khyargas Lake along a 5m long and 200-300m wide canal, which does not freeze in winter.
Khyargas Lake: Khyargas is a salt lake and depends on the weather the color of the lake changes incredibly.
Kharkhiraa and Turgen Mountains: Locates in Uvs province, western Mongolia. These two mountains are parts of Mongolian Altai Mountain Ranges and has more than 10 small glaciers and snow captured peaks.
Kharkhiraa Mountain Valley. The highest point of Kharkhiraa Mountains is Must Peak, elevation of 4037metres.
Terkh White Lake: Locates in Arkhangai Province in central Mongolia. The fresh water lake, 20 meters deep and home to many species of fishes and birds. One of the most popular attractions for both local and foreign travelers. There is a small island in the middle of the lake, a rebound location for birds to nest. See more here.
Terelj: Beautiful rock formations and peaceful valleys. Locates 70km from Ulaanbaatar, the capital city of Mongolia. Gorkhi Terelj National Park is the best and the nearest place to take a short tour and outdoor activities. More about the Gorkhi Terelj National Park, visite here.
Winter site of Mongolian nomads: This uncommon image is one of my favorites. It’s so easy to see their daily life. They have been living like this way for thousands of years on Eurasian plateau, especially on Mongolian great steppes
Sunrise image of a winter forest. Forest takes only 8 percent of the total territory of Mongolia and locates northern parts of the country. So the forest is the holy place for Mongolians.
Khar Us Lake: The fresh water lake locates in Mongolian Great Lake Depression in western Mongolia. The lake is one of the biggest lakes in Mongolia, the area of more than a thousand square kilometers.
Ulgii Town: Capital town of Bayan-Ulgii, the westernmost province of Mongolia. Was Founded in 1940, the population is 32000, home of Khazakh minority of Mongolia. This place attracts travelers and photographers for its cultural event –Golden Eagle Festival. The festival takes place here every on the first weekends of every October. See more here
Bust lake: Locates in Zavkhan province, western Mongolia. One of the beautiful lakes of western Mongolia takes 22.1 square kilometers and has a big island which is also one of the most important places of Mongolian history. Local nomads tell the legends and stories about this lake.
