TRANS SIBERIAN and TRANS - MONGOLIAN RAILWAY SYSTEM
One of the most exciting railroads in the world- the Trans-Siberian Railway runs from Moscow to Vladivostock. There are several branches on the line, one which goes through Mongolia. The Trans-Mongolian Railway is connected to the Trans-Siberian by a branch line from Ulan-Ude, providing a link between the Trans Siberian and the Chinese railway system.
The Mongolian sections were joined from the main line to Ulaanbaatar in 1949 and to China in 1955. The total distance from Moscow to Ulaanbaatar is 6304 km, and from Moscow to Beijing is 7865 km. The Trans-Mongolian covers 1000 km from Russian border to the Chinese border passing through Ulaanbaatar and several other towns.
There are Russian trains Moscow-UB-Beijing and Moscow-UB and return; there are Mongolian trains UB-Moscow and return; there are Chinese trains Beijing-UB-Moscow and return.
Train Schedule & Bookings:
The Russian, Chinese, Mongolian rail authorities decide on the annual schedules which is firmly announced, usually after May. So it is important to check the schedules when planning your travels.
Railway bookings for international trains can be made at the Foreigners booking office in the International Ticket office, a yellow building beside the Railway station in Ulaanbaatar. But it is extremely notable to book your tickets well in advance, preferably through tour operators.
Trains from Moscow to Ulaanbaatar depart twice a week, and similarly in the opposite direction (Ulaanbaatar to Moscow). There are trains every day between Irkutsk and Ulaanbaatar. The train to Ulaanbaatar departs from Beijing once a week and the day of departure changes each year. The train from Ulaanbaatar to Beijing also departs once a week, and the schedule does not normally change. Sometimes the Railway Authorities put on an additional train during the busy tourist season, but this is only announced once the busy tourist season is already underway.

The train travels 5 days between Moscow Ulaanbaatar, and 35 hours from Ulaanbaatar to Beijing including custom formalities at the borders and changing of the bogies for the larger gauge Mongolian track at the Chinese border.
Usualy our clients come from Irkutsk where train goes everyday, and after finishing their trip in Mongolia they continue on towards China by UB-Beijing or UB-Zamiin Uud (mongolian border town) train.
